Tesla Shares Rise After Third-Quarter Deliveries Beat Forecasts

The company delivered 486,532 vehicles, well above the analyst consensus it compiled, though deliveries were still about 2% lower than a year earlier.

Why it matters

  • Tesla is one of the largest stocks in the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq, so its moves affect both indexes.
  • Deliveries are the first hard number on Tesla's quarter, ahead of its full earnings report.
  • The beat came even as deliveries fell from a year earlier, so questions about growth remain.

Tesla shares rose Friday after the electric-vehicle maker reported third-quarter deliveries that topped analysts' forecasts.

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the July-to-September quarter, Electrek reported. That was well above the 461,974 average estimate in a consensus of 24 analysts that Tesla compiled and published itself. Estimates ranged from 421,758 to 482,000.

The stock closed up 4.7%, according to Trading Economics. It was one of the biggest gainers in a broad rally after a weak U.S. jobs report.

Still below last year

The beat did not mean growth. Deliveries fell 2.1% from 497,099 a year earlier, Electrek reported. They rose 1.3% from 480,126 in the second quarter.

Through the first nine months of the year, Tesla has delivered 1,324,681 vehicles, up 8.8% from the same period of 2025.

Tesla built 464,391 vehicles in the quarter, about 22,000 fewer than it delivered, which means it sold cars out of inventory.

Energy storage falls short

Tesla deployed 13.7 gigawatt-hours of energy storage products in the quarter. That was up from 12.5 GWh a year earlier but below analysts' expectations of 15.9 GWh, Electrek reported, and below the record 14.2 GWh set in the fourth quarter of 2025.

"Other models," which include the Cybertruck, the Semi and remaining Model S and Model X inventory, fell 48% from 15,933 a year earlier.

Rivian slips

Rival Rivian reported 19,248 deliveries for the quarter. Its shares fell 3% to $14.28 in morning trading, 24/7 Wall St. reported.
